Program Notes

Love You To Death was written for New Musicals, Inc., the former sister program of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, based in Los Angeles. This scene based on the script from Judd Apatow’s film This Is 40. This assignment was to pick any moment from the script and turn it into a rhythm song in standard AABA song form. BK Wells, the book writer for the assignment, and I picked this scene and I wrote the music and lyrics to reflect the content of the scene. In this scene, the two main characters Pete and Debbie (who are married) describe the ways they have fanaticized about killing one another. In the end they decide killing each other would really too hard because they don’t like anyone else.
